SABENA - Société Anonyme Belge d'Exploitation de la Navigation Aérienne – started operating on 23 May 1923 as the Belgian national carrier. Regular flights to Amsterdam and Basle via Strasbourg were started in 1923 with further routes to London, Bremen and Copenhagen from 1924. By 1925, SABENA then pioneered the first routes to Africa, starting with a route to Congo.
From the very start, SABENA has developed its own capabilities to support and secure its flight operations. Its technical department (later called Sabena technics) was an important part of this set-up. Over time, it grew into an integrated organization developing partnerships with numerous aircraft manufacturers, operators, lessors, as well as providing its services to other airlines.
The focus of the technical department has always been on flight safety, technical quality and continuous search for improvement. To this end, our organization has embedded a culture of technical discipline and operational flexibility, applicable to all aircrafts supported.
From the aircraft of the early years (such as the Farman Goliath, Breguet 14 or Handley-Page W8f) till the currently most operated aircraft manufactured by Airbus, Boeing, Embraer etc., our staff has proven its passion for aviation and its dedication to the success of its customers.
Although our organization’s roots are within the commercial airlines, our organization has developed a valuable know-how in supporting Defense operators. Along with the expansion of its services around the world to support commercial airlines, it has served and is still serving and meeting the needs of Defense & government actors, such as the Belgian Defense and the NATO.
The company culture is also to share its know-how with other professionals through technical training and/or assistance to operational ramp-up, i.e. any assistance required to meet our customer needs. By providing such training to numerous professionals around the world and extending its assistance to numerous aviation actors around the world for almost a century now, our organization has developed a strong and global network among the aviation community.
After the dissolution of Sabena in the early 2000s, our organization concentrated all its resources on the satisfaction of its other customers and joined the French TAT group to adapt its services to the new market trends.
Since 1 June 2014, our organization has once again become Belgian-owned and focuses on the segments, where our expertise and experience, as well as our ability to adapt to the customer needs, will make the difference. In addition to the maintenance solutions offered to both commercial and military operators, we now offer a complementary line of services, such as Design & Manufacturing Projects and Consulting services.
